Curriculum

The curriculum that Project SYNCERE has developed allows for students to challenge one another in an educational environment. We have set up a series of programs that encourages and pushes students to not only apply the skills they have learned from their school curriculum but also research and apply skills not yet fully developed.

Project SYNCERE’s entire focus is based on project-based learning (PBL). PBL is an effective way to teach students by allowing them to solve real world problems. Students work in groups to utilize and integrate technology, research, and formulate ideas in order to develop solutions to a given problem. This process improves their organizational, communication, research and problem-solving skills. These superlatives allow an individual to be a successful scholar and a self-directed learner.

Projects are broken down into three parts. Part (one) consist of a question or a problem that students must solve. This part includes the initial discussion of the problem. Students will then form teams of small groups to brainstorm ideas. Students breakdown the problem and designate tasks that each member must accomplish in the amount of given time. Part (two) consists of the actual tasks students perform to formulate solutions. This part includes the research, reading, writing, calculations, building of models, graphing, drawing and interviewing. Part (three) includes the presentations of the projects to faculty, staff, parents and the student class. This is where students are able to regurgitate all the information they have learned and it also provides the instructors with a clear understanding of the key concepts grasped by the students. All parts stress the use of technology to achieve the objectives, which holds students accountable for finding and implementing a solution in a given time frame to the problem.

Our curriculum makes math and science relevant to students through group activities and modern technology. Some of the projects offered are listed below along with the project description:
